Beaver

Beavers are found statewide but only occur near water sources and riparian areas living in social colonies of four to eight animals. Beavers readily build dams in creeks or streams and can be found swimming in the water at dawn or dusk. Lodges or bank dens are usually not far away from nearby dams or food reserves.

Beaver hunting and trapping within the Black Hills Fire Protection District is closed.
