Conservation

Conservation Matters

South Dakota is home to a variety of native habitats that support a diverse collection of plants and animals. These plants and animals contribute to our quality of life and the proper functioning of the natural world. Depending on habitats as diverse as remnant tallgrass prairie, Sandhills streams, and prairie pothole wetlands are the birds, mammals, insects, amphibians, reptiles, fishes and native plants that are held in trust for future generations.

As an important steward of these resources, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks helps coordinate monitoring and restoration for rare and nongame species to help sustain them for future generations.
