Getting There:
From I-90, take Exit 61. Go north on Elk Vale Road for approximately 11 miles to Bill Janklow Rd. The shooting complex is located on the east side of Elk Vale Rd. off Bill Janklow Rd.


HOURS AND ACCESS

Hours of Operation:

  • May – August: 8:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
  • September – April: 8:30 a.m. – Sunset

Open 7 days a week (closed on some holidays)

Age Requirements:
Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult (age 18 or older) at all times.


MEMBERSHIP AND FEES

General Use (Free to Public):
Includes 50-, 100-, and 300-yard bays, and the archery range. Open during business hours, first come, first served. Indoor area available by reservation only.
Membership Required Areas:
Long-range bay, shotgun area, sporting clays course, and north range.

Membership Rates:
  • Individual: $100
  • Family: $150
  • Day Pass: $20


SAFETY AND RULES

Long-Range Proficiency Test:
Members must pass a proficiency test to use the long-range bay. After paying your membership fee and watching the on-site safety video, arrange a time with a range officer. You must shoot three (3) consecutive hits on a 12-inch target at 300 yards within five (5) rounds.

Eye & Ear Protection:
Required at all times while on or near a shooting bay. Strongly encouraged throughout the facility.

Range Rules:
•    Eye and ear protection MUST be worn at all times on shooting bays
•    No drawing from a holster Is allowed on any of the pistol bays 
•    Persons 17 years of age and under must be supervised by a responsible adult 18 years of age or older
•    Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the range
•    NO alcoholic beverages or intoxicating substances are allowed on the range; possessing a loaded firearm while intoxicated is illegal per South Dakota 22-14-7 and WILL be enforced.
•    NO dogs are allowed on or near shooting areas
•     Service dogs must always be kept under physical control by their owner
•    Pick up all brass and deposit in the marked containers on each bay 
•    Users must pick up all trash and place it in the provided trash cans 
•    NO tracer/incendiary/Armor Piercing/ Penetrator (Green Tip) rounds allowed 
•    NO full-auto fire is allowed except during a special permit event 
•    NO .50 BMG or derivatives allowed
•    Only the use of paper targets on provided target frames and/or provided steel/reactive targets is allowed
•    NO Tannerite or other exploding targets allowed 
•    Targets are subject to Range Officer approval
•    All firearms must be aimed when firing, NO shooting from the hip or any other shooting position in which the shooter cannot properly utilize the sights 
•    Shooters must abide by the commands or directions given by Complex Staff. Failure to abide by these rules may result in the customer being asked to leave 
•    If transported uncased, firearms should be carried muzzle up

Safety Rules:
•    Activate the cold range warning system and ensure all shooters are behind the safety line before going forward of the RED safety line to change or inspect targets
•    No one is allowed forward of the RED safety line when the line is "hot" (lights off)
•    No one is allowed between the Safety line and the RED safety line when the red lights are flashong and the range is "cold."
•    When the cold range warning system is activated, unload firearm, open action, and move behind the safety line
•    NO handling of firearms while the red lights are flashing
•    Anyone can call an emergency "Cease Fire" and activate the cold range warning system for a safety emergency


OPERATIONS AND AMENITIES

Appointments:
No appointment is required for the south range. When the sporting clays course opens, reservations may be required. Check with PLSSSC front desk staff.
Staff on Duty:
GFP staff are on-site during normal business hours.
Steel Targets:
Available at the long-range bay, 300-yard bay, and the .22/air gun bay.
Firearm Rentals:
Not available. Firearms may be used during GFP classes or special events only.
Ammunition Sales:
Not available at this time.
