If the fish is of legal length/species to harvest, you will be able to keep both the fish and the tag.  If the fish cannot be harvested, you may remove the tag to keep or release the fish with the tag intact. 

Not all tags qualify for a reward and only reward tags need to be verified. Reward tags will be clearly marked "reward." To claim the reward, an image of the tag showing the tag number can be submitted with the tag report, or the tag must be verified by either North Dakota or South Dakota wildlife officials. 

Tag certificates are generally sent to anglers within 2 weeks of reporting. However, during periods of exceptionally high tag returns, catch certificates will be sent as soon as possible in the order that they are submitted.  If requested, information about the fish can be sent to you as well.
