Group Campsites

Each site includes electricity, a fire grate and picnic table unless otherwise noted. Group campsites are available to reserve one year in advance. Two night minimum stay required. Double-ups are allowed on group reservation sites with prior approval from the park manager, as long as the site is a designated double-up site. Each unit must pay the per-night camping fee upon arrival at the park.

Lewis and Clark Recreation Area

  • All sites within a loop must be reserved for a group reservation.
  • Campers pay the per night fee for each campsite in the loop.
  • Group camping sites are located within four separate loops.
    • Loop A: 10 campsites | numbers 169-178
    • Loop B: 10 campsites | numbers 179-188
    • Loop C: 8 campsites | numbers 189-196
    • Loop D: 8 campsites | numbers 197-204
  • A two night minimum stay is required
  • Reservation taken as much as one year in advance before arrival. Group campsites not reserved 90 days before arrival are opened to individual reservations.

Pierson Ranch - Nonprofit Group Area

  • Fee: $0.50 per person per night ($6 minimum)
  • The Pierson Ranch Youth Camping Area is located at the west end of the day use area in Pierson Ranch. The campground is designed for youth groups (Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Church Groups, etc.) camping in tents only and with adult supervision.
  • A two-night minimum stay is required.
  • Reservations taken as much as one year before arrival.
  • Reservations can only be made for this area by calling the park office: 605.668.2985.
  • Nonprofit youth groups are eligible for discount camping on designated sites only.
  • Flush toilets available at Picnic Shelter 1
  • Additional picnic tables at Picnic Shelter 1
  • Fire grates

  • Flush toilets and showers available in Pierson Ranch campground
  • Some electric pedestals available in group area

Custer State Park - Stockade Group Area

  • Fee: $7 per person per night ($140 minimum)
  • Located on the shore of Stockade Lake, this area is suitable for small trailers and tents. Fishing is available on site and swimming and evening Park Naturalist programs are located nearby.
  • Accommodates maximum of 40 people
  • A two-night minimum stay is required.
  • Reservations taken as much as one year before arrival.

  • Flush toilets and showers (modern facilities located 1/4 mile away in Stockade South Campground)

Custer State Park - Shady Rest Non-Profit Group Area

  • Fee: $0.50 per person per night ($6 minimum)
  • This area is for non-profit youth organizations camping in tents. It is located in a shady draw with an intermittent stream running through the area. Amenities are limited as this area provides a rustic type camping experience.
  • Reservations taken as much as one year before arrival.

  • Nonprofit youth groups are eligible for discount camping on designated sites only.

  • Water must be brought in and is available at various locations throughout the Park.
  • Showers are available between the hours of 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Game Lodge Campground.

Custer State Park - Center Lake Non-Profit Group Area

  • Fee: $0.50 per person per night ($6 minimum)
  • The Center Lake Youth Camping Area is located in the day use area on the east side of Center Lake. The campground is designed for youth groups (Boy Scout, Girl Scouts, Church Groups, etc.) camping in tents only and with adult supervision.
  • Sites designated for Youth Camping are Sites A, B, C, D, and E. This area offers a primitive camping experience.
  • Reservations taken as much as one year before arrival.

  • Nonprofit youth groups are eligible for discount camping on designated sites only.

  • Water may be obtained from the shower house located near the swimming beach.
