Note: Visitors and campers coming to Lake Cochrane Recreation Area will see a road closure starting August 7th as the Deuel County Highway Department is replacing a bridge on 486th Ave. south of SD Highway 22. Construction will last for the remainder of the camping season with a tentative end date of October 31, 2023. Visitors traveling Eastbound from Clear Lake, SD will need to stay on SD Hwy 22 an extra three miles before turning right onto 487th Ave. and continue on County Rd 375. Turn right onto Edgewater drive and proceed to the park. Visitors traveling Westbound from Canby, MN will turn left off Hwy 22 onto 487th Ave. and continue on County Rd 375. Turn right onto Edgewater drive and proceed to the park. There are also state park direction signs on this route to aid visitors in getting to the park.
Nestled between Lake Cochrane and Lake Oliver is an 88-acre playground for campers, anglers, boaters and those who simply enjoy the outdoors. Both the quality of the park and the clear, spring-fed lake bring people to this area. Lake Cochrane was named for the area's first homesteader, Byron J. Cochrane, who settled on the south side of the lake in 1872. The area's rich farmlands and attractive setting soon attracted other homesteaders.
Open: Year-round. Between Oct. 1 and April 30, showers, flush toilets and other water systems may be closed. Please contact the park directly for current status. Vault toilets usually remain open.
