GFP Commission Holds November Meeting

November 10, 2025

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) Commission held their November meeting at the GFP Outdoor Campus in Rapid City November 7 and 8.

FINALIZATIONS

Custer State Park Buffalo Season

The Commission approved making Custer State Park (CSP) Trophy Bison and Non-Trophy Bison licenses available with 60% of licenses available for residents only in the first draw, then the remaining 40% of the licenses available to both residents and nonresidents for the first draw.

The finalization sets a maximum number of licenses at:

  • 15 Trophy Buffalo Licenses; and,
  • 30 Non-Trophy Buffalo Licenses.

Annual license allocation will be determined by forage and herd health conditions.

The Commission then set the 2026 and 2027 CSP Bison license allocation, which will include 12 Trophy Buffalo licenses and 25 Non-Trophy Buffalo licenses.

This would increase the Trophy Buffalo allocation by 2 and Non-Trophy Buffalo allocation by 5 from the 2025 season.
