Returned Licenses
GFP accepts license returns for all big game and limited draw seasons. To be eligible for a refund and reinstatement of preference points the following rules apply:
- Deer licenses obtained during the combined deer drawing must be postmarked no later than September 30, 2024. These licenses include Custer State Park Deer, Refuge Deer, Muzzleloader Deer, Black Hills Deer, East River Deer, West River Deer, and Special Buck (East River and West River).
- Elk licenses (Black Hills Elk, Black Hills Archery Elk, Prairie Elk, Custer Elk, and Custer Early Archery), including all licenses issued to landowners, must be postmarked no later than August 1, 2024.
- All other limited draw licenses must be postmarked prior to the start of the respective season. For example, Prairie Spring Turkey must be postmarked no later than April 12, 2024, while Prairie Antelope and Special Antelope must be postmarked no later than September 27, 2024, and Archery Deer must be postmarked no later than August 31, 2024.
Hunters not planning on hunting must have their licenses postmarked before the specific dates provided by GFP. Hunters returning their tags by these deadlines will receive a full refund and preference points for that season will be retained.
