Check Out South Dakota State Parks

In partnership between the Department of Education and the Department of Game, Fish and Parks, library-card holders may check out a 3-day state park vehicle pass at their local participating public library. The Check Out South Dakota State Parks library park pass is valid for entry of one passenger vehicle into any South Dakota State Park, Recreation Area, or Nature Area.

How does it work?

Contact your local library to Check Out South Dakota State Parks. If you don’t have a library card, visit your local library to get one. The library card and the pass checkout are free! 

During your park visit, visibly display the vehicle park entrance license on your vehicle’s rearview mirror. Make sure to return the vehicle park pass to the library for others to Check Out South Dakota State Parks, and complete the survey about your experience.
