On January 19th and 20th, 2005, eight biologists from the SD Game, Fish and Parks; U.S. Forest Service, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service walked the length of Spearfish Creek and tributaries that were ice free.
Fifty dippers were found. Of the thirty-seven dippers banded in the Spearfish Creek watershed since 2002, seven were still present on the stream.
