Latest Chronic Wasting Disease Testing REsults

In the South Dakota CWD Surveillance period of July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015, a total of 178 samples have been collected for CWD surveillance.

In Summary:
South Dakota is reporting a total of 22 positive deer and elk (6 mule deer, 4 white-tailed deer and 12 elk) in the testing period of July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015.

To date, South Dakota has found 282 cases of CWD (178 deer and 104 elk) in free ranging deer and elk since testing began in 1997.  Wind Cave National Park (WICA) accounts for 77 of these animals (67 elk, 10 deer).  Eleven elk and 1 deer have been found in Custer State Park.   A total of 25,299 wild deer and elk have been tested for CWD since 1997.
