GFP Commission Finalizes Snaring Changes on Game Production Areas and Waterfowl Production AreasJune 11, 2018
PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) Commission adopted a regulation change prohibiting snares that use springs or other powering devices on Game Production Areas and Waterfowl Production Areas, above water.
Commonly referred to as compression springs and ram springs, these types of devices are used to hold the snare closed. The mechanisms are prohibited year-round.
The change was initiated due to concerns over hunting dogs being caught in snares on these two types of public hunting areas.
